Helen's fight is an inspiration
A SALE woman who has lost her battle against cancer is the inspiration behind a fundraising campaign to help other sufferers.
Helen Hobson's family urged people attending her funeral to donate money to Christie's Hospital Fund instead of bringing flowers.
Helen, of Craddock Road in Sale, who died on February 25 was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer and several tumours in November after a routine scan of an ovarian cyst. On February 5 she celebrated her 51st birthday with family and friends and was also feeling well enough for a family trip to Blackpool.
Philip Hobson said the fundraising effort was inspired by the generosity and kindness of his wife and to "help keep her memory alive."
The funeral which took place at St. Joseph's Church in Sale was attended by friends and family, as well as work colleagues.
An impressive £1,400 has already been raised for the charity which provides care for more than 3.2 million people in Greater Manchester and Cheshire.
Helen's 15 year old daughter, Eleanor, who attends Loreto Grammar school in Altrincham, said: "I was surprised that so many people gave money to the charity and it just goes to show how good people are."
Eleanor now wants to become a doctor specialising in cancer-related illnesses.
"I want to help people who have cancer so they don't have to go through what we went through," she said.
