The first refuge for male domestic abuse survivors in Greater Manchester is marking one year since its opening in Trafford.
Trafford Domestic Abuse Services opened Oak House with the support of Trafford Council and other councils in the area.
According to the charity it is the first refuge for male domestic abuse survivors in Greater Manchester and one of a few across the country as a whole.
It has been a sanctuary to more than a dozen male survivors in its first year and six of these male survivors are now in a safe, secure home of their own.
Samantha Fisher, the CEO of Trafford Domestic Abuse Services, said: "The anniversary of Oak House is a testament to the resilience and courage of survivors and the dedication of our community.
"We reflect on the impact of providing safe accommodation for male survivors knowing it is much more than providing shelter; it is about restoring dignity, amplifying voices, and reshaping narratives.
"As we honour this milestone, we recommit to our mission of breaking down barriers and fostering a society where every survivor, regardless of gender, finds help and support.
"To our dedicated team, supporters, funders and the brave individuals who have walked through our doors – thank you for being a part of this incredible journey. Together, we are rewriting the narrative and proving that every survivor's voice deserves to be heard."
Mark Brooks OBE, the chair of Mankind Initiative, a national charity supporting male survivors, said: "The first anniversary of Oak House is a hugely significant achievement.
"It has not only provided a lifeline for so many men, it has shown there is a clear need for this type of support.
"It is also groundbreaking nationally in the fact that boroughs across Greater Manchester have come together to provide support. No other city has done this, so as ever Greater Manchester is leading the way.
"A huge thank you to TDAS and Trafford Council for making all of this possible. Their collaboration has been game changing and has rightly been recognised across the UK."
